How Do I Apply My Clip In Hair Extensions?
Get The Perfect Colour Match
This one might seem obvious but the perfect colour match is key. This will assure your hair extensions look discreet and blend seamlessly with your natural hair. SWAY offers a custom colour matching service to ensure you get the perfect blend.
Placement
Start by sectioning your hair near the nape of the neck and secure the top half of your hair with a hairclip or hair tie. Repeat this step after applying each weft. Start with the 3 clip weft and work your way up, using the longer 4 clip wefts in the middle section of your hair. Use your 2 clip and 1 clip wefts around the front section of your hair to add extra volume to the front. Remember to pull the wefts as tight as possible when applying to ensure you get a seamless finish.
Backcombing Your Root Is Key
For the hair extensions to hold in your hair, softly backcomb the roots before application. For a stronger hold, use a small amount of hairspray at the root before clipping in.
Keep Your Extensions Tangle-free
Keeping your mane in the best condition is essential when using hair extensions and will make them last much longer. Using an extension-friendly hairbrush will save your hair from excessive breakage.
Aftercare
Clip in Hair Extensions are not worn constantly so should not need to be regularly washed. However, when you do feel like they need a refresh only use a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner. This will avoid damage caused by harsh chemicals found in regular shampoos which can strip moisture from your extensions and cause them to become dry and brittle. When styling, we recommend you use heat protectant spray to ensure minimal damage. We recommend only using SWAY Haircare Products on our extensions which are free from sulphates, parabens and alcohol, along with the added bonus of them being 100% cruelty free.
When heat styling your extensions, we recommend using the SWAY Heat Protectant Spray to keep your hair in the best condition possible. We also advise against using heat over 180 degrees.
Clip In Hacks
Hiding The Bottom Section Of Your Hair
If you have shorter hair, these sections can sometimes pop out from under your extensions.
To avoid this, twist the bottom section of hair and pin it into a small bun; this will limit movement and you can then hide this by clipping your first row on top of this section.
Ponytail Hack
Make sure you brush and smooth your extensions before applying. Section your hair from the bottom up, near the nape of your neck and apply your clip ins upside down in the direction of your ponytail. Repeat this step 2-3 times. Once all of your extensions are clipped in, flip your head upside down and brush your hair into a ponytail using your SWAY paddle brush. Secure your ponytail in place with a hair tie and style as you wish.
Styling Before You Apply
Styling your hair extensions, especially at the back, can be a difficult task sometimes. To make life easier, hang your hair up on a hanger and curl or straighten your clip ins before applying. This also saves time when you’re getting ready as this can be done the night before!
